Modular Tutorials for a new player?

So I’m pretty much the design user for this kit, I’m looking forward to my explorer kit arriving soon (hopefully (pending)) but I’ve never used modular synthesis before. I was looking at microrack as a way to learn about synthesis and electronics.

Are there any tutorials about? Either microrack specific (not yet) or good introductions to modular synthesis?

any good resources for a new player?

Look Mum No Computer has some pretty good modular synthesis videos.

Are you at all familiar with synthesizers at all? I’ll happily assemble a beginner guide, but I’ll make sure the early version (tldr edition) is geared appropriately.

There is a free (small) course on Sara Belle Reid’s website. It uses the free version of VCV rack software. I like it a lot, it starts you up.

Seconding this - Sarah Belle-Reid is a great teacher. Her paid courses are definitely worthwhile also.

Download VCV Rack. It is a software version of these modules and then some.
For tutorials on running it, look at Omri Cohen on youtube. The modular synthesis knowledge will transfer to the MicroRack.

Also the following from School of Synthesis is great - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V35OhojjqDs

Sarah is doing a free talk that might be interesting for you (and me!) Sarah Belle Reid on Instagram: "A lot of people assume that modular synths & music production came super easily to me—that I have one of “those brains” that just magically understands technical things. SUPER not true. When I was first learning modular synths, things didn’t come easily to me at all. I had a million questions, but I was too nervous to ask for help or post on forums. I remember feeling “stupid” that things weren’t clicking quickly—like everyone else out there must be SO much more tech-savvy than me… I persevered, and eventually gained fluency in modular synths—but it took me YEARS to piece everything together on my own, & a LOT of trial & error. Why am I telling you this? Because it’s so important to remember that everyone has to start somewhere. Even those “experts” out there who seem to have it all figured out. Here’s an important reminder, in case no one has told you recently: 👉 It’s NORMAL to feel intimidated by something big & complex at first. 👉 It’s 100% expected for you to “suck” at something you’re doing for the 1st time. 👉 It’s OKAY to have questions! It doesn’t mean you “don’t get it”... it means you’re curious & you care. ^^These are all totally normal parts of learning, growing, & being human. ❤️ I’m hosting a free live class this week, all about helping you take your 1st steps in modular synthesis with confidence & clarity. I’d love for you to join! In this 1hr class, you’ll learn: 🎛 The first 4 steps to getting started with modular synths—without feeling overwhelmed OR needing to buy a ton of expensive gear 🎛 The most important skill you need to get great at sound design (& how to develop it) 🎛 How to choose your 1st synth (& how to avoid the biggest mistakes folks make when getting started!) There will also be an open Q+A at the end! Comment "WORKSHOP25" for the link to register and save your spot! #modularsynth #experimentalmusic #synthesizer #eurorack #sounddesign›"
